CFOC Respite Centre
Ajax Council voted unanimously in favour of Durham Region using the formerly vacant Central Park Ajax Pavilion to temporarily house unsheltered people in our community.
The Challenge
The City has recognized the current challenges of homelessness faced by communities. The Region works closely with Ajax service providers, such as the Christian Faith Outreach Centre (CFOC) to facilitate the search for permanent housing.
Our Services
We provide 24/7 fully staffed facilities and access to a bed, hot meals and beverages. Clients are also supported by CFOC's Ajax Hub for showers and connections to additional resources.
Our Goals
The CFOC Respite Centre quickly grew from 22 beds when it opened on December 12, 2022 to the maximum of 30 beds in one week. This is in conjunction with CFOC's Doors Of Compassion which is at full capacity serving 20 patrons.
The CFOC Respite Centre is currently a pilot program, we hope to see it continue beyond the current scheduled end date, as we have seen the immense need in our community.
